It is time to update because you must have missed the last update(s).
In December 2009 we decided to move the license system away from our main website but kept the old links in place.
In August 2010 we moved from it2be.com to servoycomponents.com and again, we kept the old links in place.
In December 2010 we updated the Components Manager to use the new links only so that we can stop maintaining old links.
This weekend we dismantled it2be.com completely. It is now nothing more than a referrer to servoycomponents.com.
You can download the latest Components Manager at http://www.servoycomponents.com/downloads.

Because of the many changes we made the last couple of weeks we created a new Component Manager.
Nothing spectacular (for you) but an essential update. At least for those using Servoy 5.
The old version should still work but you are encouraged to download this new version to be prepared for future changes.

Today we released Beta 7 of Calendar Bean v3.0.
Big difference with earlier releases is the implementation of the Gantt View which was more work than we thought.
Changes are:
Beta 7
[new] 'calendarCategoryColumnWidth' is now scriptable as well
[new] implemented getCalendarColumnAreaWidth(...) to get the width of the date area (without, when visible, 'west header' and width of vertical scrollbar)
[new] added Gantt View
[fix] categories would not show up on second startup in Developer
[fix] corrected issue with Calendar and Gantt date 'alignment'
Beta 6 (silent release)
[new] added property 'calendarCategoryColumnWidth' to set the width of the category columns (0 fits in panel, > 0 sets horizontal scrollbar)
[new] added property 'showInCategoryHeader' to JSCategory (default = true). When false it will not show up in a filtered calendar
[new] added (scriptable) property 'calendarAllDayAreaEnabled' to enable/disable moving of events in the allday area
[chg] when the calendar time interval is < 15 minutes times will be show every 2nd row (instead of each row)
[fix] corrected issue with wrong expansion on init of the calendar
[fix] corrected issue with expanding and expandingDeep
You can find more information about the Calendar Bean here.

Moved website for Servoy Components to 'servoycomponents.com'
Today we made a bold move.
We decided to start using our domain names with servoy in the name like servoycomponents, servoyplugins, servoybeans and the many variations of it.
Nothing else is new ( we changed our website last week so that is not new anymore ;) ).
Lower prices for HTMLeditor, LDAPclient and Outlook Plug-in
Today we lowered our prices for three popular Plug-ins.
We made the prices of the HTMLeditor, LDAPclient and Outlook client more attractive by calculating a discount that ranges from 30% to 70% of the previous price.
Maintenance fees changed accordingly and the good news is that this also applies to current clients.
So, when you already own such a component your next yearly payment will be lower than what you were used to.

New website
Last week we have worked hard to update our Servoy Components website.
It is a completely new website with a new design and, we hope you agree, easier navigation.
As you can see we made the menu structure easier and better.
Version information is now always available on the component page and Release Notes now have their own tab.
We also made summary pages for Plug-ins and for Beans.
When you take a look on our Support Page you will notice that the knowledgebase is absent.
We decided to move the information (when available) from our Support System to a FAQ tab on the Components pages.
In the next couple of weeks you will probably see 'FAQ' tabs appearing for more products and/or more FAQ's added.
We hope you like the new design!
When you miss something or see something going wrong please let us know via our Contact page.

Today we released Version 1.2 of our Components Manager for Servoy 4/5.
When you use v1.2 of the Components Manager it will check for you if the version of Servoy is pre 4.1.6 or pre 5.1.2 and will, in that case, remove the security settings from the JNLP after downloading.
This should solve the issue the issue of mixing our signed Components with unsigned Servoy libraries.
You can download v1.2 of the Components Manager here
Additionally we released updated versions of our Components for all Servoy versions mainly including updated JNLP files (see remarks Johan on the Servoy Forum).

Signed IT2BE Components for Servoy 3

After releasing signed versions of our Components for Servoy 4 and 5 yesterday we released signed versions of our Components for Servoy 3 today.
With this release we finished solving the 'signing' issues following the release of Java 1.6.0_19. You can read more about this on the Servoy Wiki.
The jars are signed using an official certificate from a Certification Authority. Depending on the settings this means that the user will be asked to accept the certificate for the first IT2BE Component that the loader finds. After that, again depending on the settings, the user should not see any dialog anymore.
The update manager will notify you of the new releases and offer you an option to download the Components.
Please check the releases of your choice first in your own (developer) environment before uploading them to your client.
Don't forget to make an Archive of the old jars.
Please create a support ticket when you experience an issue.
IMPORTANT: Unfortunately we have to sign the license jars as well. As a result you can not use your current license jars so we need to know who still uses them. Please create a sales ticket when this is the case and we will send you the new license files as soon as possible.

Signed IT2BE Components for Servoy 4 & 5

For those interested we released signed versions of our Plug-ins and Beans today for Servoy 4 and 5 today.
With this release we 'upgraded' all (until now) beta versions to released versions including the Word, Exchange and Gantt Components.
The Calendar Bean is still at v2 because this whole 'signing' issue came a little too early for v3 (we also uploaded signed versions of our Components on the Beta site).
The jars are signed using an official certificate from a Certification Authority.
Depending on the settings this means that the user will be asked to accept the certificate for the first IT2BE Component that the loader finds.
After that, again depending on the settings, the user should not see any dialog anymore.
You can download the components using our Components Mananager.
Please check the releases of your choice first in your own (developer) environment before uploading them to your client.
Don't forget to make an Archive of the old jars first (File > Archive in the Components Manager).
Please create a support ticket when you experience an issue.
This update is only available for developers with a current subscription.
When you are still using Servoy 3 please let us know. We are almost done with the work for the Components for 3.5 but chances are that we have to sign the license jars as well so we need to know who still uses them. Please create a sales ticket when this is the case.

Servoy launch issue with Java 1.6.0_19

This week Oracle released Java 1.6.0_19.
This release causes issues with starting a JWS client as described on the Servoy Forum.
We are working hard, together with Servoy, to bypass/overcome this issue and we hope to release new versions of our Components soon however this depends on external parties as well so we can not give you a firm ETA yet
04/14/2010 Update: You can read me about the subject and solution on the Servoy Wiki.

Beta release of Calendar Bean v3.0b1

Version 3 of the Calendar Bean is a complete rebuild of the old version.
There is still old code but the core has changed dramatically.
Rebuilding was necessary due to the many new features that were implemented over the years as well as to honor feature requests that could not be implemented due to the design.
With this version we removed certain limitations and optimized the way the Calendar Bean works.

The Calendar Bean now consists of five different Beans; the Calendar Bean (IT2BeCalendarCalendar), the Gantt Bean (IT2BeCalendarGantt), the Category Bean (IT2BeCalendarCategories), the DatePicker Bean (IT2BeCalendarDatePicker) and the Toolbar Bean (IT2BeCalendarToolbar).
The sixt Bean (IT2BeCalendar) is created to get you (re-started) fast and is a replacement for the old 'Classic' Calendar Bean.
When you want to test drive v3.0b1 our Calendar Bean you can download it following the below instructions.
THIS IS A BETA NOTIFICATION. PLEASE READ THE BELOW TEXT TO AVOID ISSUES OR ALREADY ANSWERED QUESTIONS...
What are the important changes
This is what you have to do
PLEASE REPORT ALL ISSUES WITH A TICKET IN THE SUPPORT SYSTEM AT http://www.it2be.com/index.php/support
Where do I start
When you have an old solution you should be able to continue working withouth any changes (although not advised, see below) but we can not guarantee that we thought of everything. It was a massive job and there are still things to do (check out the list: 'Things to do' for what we already know).
Please import the sample solution to see the new bean at work, we re-built it based on the new bean.
IMPORTANT: UNLIKE THE OLD BEAN NOT ALL PROPERTY CHANGES ARE SHOWN IN DESIGN MODE
Known bugs and things to do
The Bean is fully prepared but does not yet allow you to:

THIS IS A BETA NOTIFICATION. PLEASE READ THE BELOW TEXT TO AVOID ISSUES OR ALREADY ANSWERED QUESTIONS...
What are the important changes
- introduction of JSDecorator and JSDecoratorSet to create background shades. You can use this to show availability of resources, block certain times for lunch etc.
- introduction of JSCategory and JSCategorySet replacing the old way of setting categories. The old methods are deprecated (although you can still use them) and it is preferred to use the new method for more flexibility and future enhancements
- introduction of JSEvent and JSEventSet replacing the old way of setting events. The old methods are deprecated (although you can still use them) and it is preferred to use the new method for more flexibility and future enhancements. Most important enhancements at this time are: iCalendar compatible setting of recurring events, override a color, add tags for (internal) identification
- there are three themes created for those that like the 'iCal' laf or the 'Outlook' laf. They are both inspired on (but not an exact match of) on the two famous apps that the names are borrowed from. The third theme is named 'Classic' and give all flexibility of the old Bean.
- the toolbar has changed dramatically and looks much more 'modern'
- and many more smaller and bigger enhancements and changes
This is what you have to do
- Download the Component Manager from http://www.it2be.com/index.php/downloads
- Install the Component Manager following the instructions in the manual (see download link above)
- The Component Manager will make a backup of your old beans- and plugins folders but it is preferred to work with a clean install. All components were updated due to changes to the core.
- Run the Component Manager from the command line: 'java -jar it2be-manager -beta'. This will make that the Component Manager points to the beta components.
- Select and Download the components you want to use.
- Quit the Component Manager and (re-)restart Servoy.
- Import the solution application_server/solutions/it2be-examples/it2be-calendar.servoy

IMPORTANT: UNLIKE THE OLD BEAN NOT ALL PROPERTY CHANGES ARE SHOWN IN DESIGN MODE
Known bugs and things to do
The Bean is fully prepared but does not yet allow you to:
- work with multiple instances of a panel with different sets. We found a last minute issue with the way an instance of a panel is identified and need clarification/help of Servoy to solve it.
- only the 'ClassicBean' works at this point, all other beans are almost ready but can not yet be used
- the GanttBean (and as a result the GanttView in the 'ClassicBean') is not yet implemented
- showing events for different categories in 'their own column' does not work yet in Servoy. This was a last minute discovery, it works in the SandBox but not in Servoy. Should be easy to solve.
- event/shape templates have not been tested
- splitpanel positions don't stick yet

Yesterday I was at Servoy World in Netherland.
While talking with one of the Developers I was asked if it would be possible to add different color layers to the new Calendar Bean.
Although the use of different, user defined, layers was not part of the original design I decided to add this feature.
All in all it took me a day work to go from design to implementation.
So, I am proud that I can announce that the new Calendar Bean will have two new Objects: JSDecoratorSet and a JSDecorator.
These Objects allow you to setup a layer (decorator) as shown in the below screen print:

The following screen print shows you the result of the above method:

So, how are you going to create Categories and Events with the new Bean.
Until now you would add a DataSet (or Array), enter the column names and all is fine.
And, although this works for 90% of our clients it is not very flexible.
With the new version of the Bean you will work with JSCategorySets, JSCategory, JSEventSets and JSEvent Objects.
You can create, set, remove etc all these Objects and have full flexibility with your data source.

We promised to keep you up to date so, here it is...
The implementation of Categories was one of the main reasons why we started rebuilding the Calendar Bean.
The current release of the CalendarBean has three main limitations for Categories:
The implementation of Categories was one of the main reasons why we started rebuilding the Calendar Bean.
The current release of the CalendarBean has three main limitations for Categories:
- It is not possible to use a FoundSet.
- Setting Categories is done for for all instances of the Calendar Bean.
- Only one parentId is allowed.
- We have been working hard to lift these limitations.
- The use of FoundSets will be possible.
- Setting Categories will be possible per instance of the Bean.
- We prepared the Bean to accept more than one parentId. But, since this is essential to how the bean works we can not promise full implementation immediately. But so far things are looking good :)

We have finished another phase in the development of the new Calendar Bean v3.0.
We have worked hard to implement most of the things that have to do with what you and your users will see.
Also, to make things easy, we have created 2 additional 'themes'.
The 'Classic' theme still exists. The new themes are an 'Outlook' theme and an 'iCal' theme.
A lot of time was spent in improving the event 'shapes', the way the panels look etc. When you look at the below screen print you see will see what I am talking about.
As you can see the panels are almost identical to the old Calendar Bean.
One of the more imporant changes however is that you can also place the panels seperately on a form (toolbar, categories, datepicker and calendar) and they will listen to each other based on your settings.
Another important new feature is, as promised, the possibility to work with different categories per instance of the tree panel.

IT2BE Components Manager for Servoy Introduced

Today we released our brand new tool: IT2BE Components Manager to manage your configuration and licenses of IT2BE Components for Servoy 4 and 5.
IT2BE Components Manager is a Command Line and User Interface Application that replaces the current mechanism to request licenses and install/update our Components.
Although the Eclipse Update Manager is a 'standardized' tool, used by most Eclipse feature- and plugin- developers, it is also a tool that made the installation and upgrade process a lengthy process due to the way the Update Manager works.
Additionally a big oversight was that it is not possible to install/update our Components without Servoy Developer installed.
It is fair to say that the current tools served their purpose but nothing more. They were not user friendly and needed much work to become better.
When we found out that Servoy 5 comes with a new version of Eclipse with a new Update Manager we knew that this was the moment to review the current mechanism and come up with a new and more flexible solution.
For the above mentioned reasons we started developing the IT2BE Components Manager. It is a stand alone application that should be installed in the Servoy root folder.
With IT2BE Components Manager you have a Command Line as well as a User Interface application to check, install, uninstall, update, downgrade, archive and unarchive our Components that works with installations of Servoy with and without Servoy Developer installed.
Additionally you can request for (trial) licenses using the same application.
A nice new feature is that it will be a lot easier to give you access to our beta components.
All in all we are proud to announce this new application and hope that you like using it as much as we liked developing it.
You can download the IT2Be Components Manager and the Manual here.
When you find bugs or have feature request please create a ticket in our helpdesk.
As always: Have Fun...

Calendar Bean v3.0 development started

Today we started developing the Calendar Bean version 3.0.
As we said before this is going to be a completely rewritten Servoy Bean.
The reason for the rewrite is the fact that the Bean has grown into a Component that does more than we could imagine when we started with it.
Because of that there are some performance issues and we have a hard time to maintain the Bean.
The second reason for the rebuild is that we can not fulfill enough feature requests anymore.
Obviously the Calendar Bean is still based on the MiG libraries. They are simply the best...
I will try to keep you up to date of important changes / progress.
The first big change is that you will be able to position the different panels separately on a form.
Apart from the Predefined Calendar Bean (for legacy reasons) we also created a 'Calendar Panel', "Gantt Panel', 'Categories Panel' and 'DatePicker' Panel.
With these four panels you will have full freedom creating your form.
Elements like buttons, splitpanes and text fields are your responsibility when you use them!
So, enough to look forward to.

2 weeks ago we released a new beta of the IT2BE Data Plug-in.
With this release of the Data Plug-in for Servoy 4 Eclipse we added improved and more advanced support for Excel sheets.
You can already convert a Servoy DataSet to our native FormattedDataSet to format cells, borders, include formulas, include/replace data etc.
Following versions will include comments, images, charts etc.
With this new release of the Data Plug-in you can read and write the following formats:
• XLSX 2007/2008
• XLS 2003/2002/2000
• XLS 97
• CSV
• TAB
In the near future we will also add support for PDF output.
Because we make use of Java native libraries, the Data Plug-in is OS independent and there is no need to have MS Office installed on your computer.
When you are interested in an upgrade for Servoy 3.5 please let us know.
More information about the Data Plug-in and additional resources is avaliable here.

We are happy to announce the release of the new beta version of our DataStream Plug-in for Servoy 4.0 today.
The DataStream Plug-in enables you to stream large(r) files from and to a client and server file system or a database (record).
One of the advantages is that streaming can happen in the background and/or by showing a progress dialog in the foreground.
For this release we concentrated on reliability and cleaning up the code. We reduced the number of jar files (3 instead of 12) and saved 500 kb.

THE UPDATE MANAGER OF SERVOY ECLIPSE IS NO LONGER USED. PLEASE USE THE COMPONENTS MANAGER.
We are happy to announce that beta versions of the Calendar Bean and Gantt Bean for Servoy 4.0 are available now.
You can run the Beans in a smart client and you can script them but the properties can only be set when Servoy 4.0.2 is available (the current release is 4.0.1).
You can download them through the update manager of ServoyEclipse.
Download instructions are here.
Instructions how to apply for licenses are here.
Please take good notice of these instructions when it is the first time that you use the update manager to download our components.
We are working hard to have beta versions of most, if not all, of our Components for Servoy 4.0 released by the end of October.

IT2BE Support for Servoy 2.2.x
I assume that you are aware of the fact that, after July 1st, 2008, Servoy 2.2 will no longer be officially supported by Servoy.
When you did not know you know now :)
Until now, and until the above date, we test new releases for all officially supported versions of Servoy before releasing. Including Servoy 2.2.
Our policy to support all officially supported versions of Servoy will remain as is.
The result of that is that we will also stop supporting our Components for Servoy 2.2.
We will keep a copy of the latest releases. We have not yet made a decision how it will be available though.
For those of you wondering about support for 4.0.
Current releases of our Components might work with 4.0 and might not.
We advise you NOT to use our current releases with Servoy 4.0 other than testing but be advised that we don't support it!
With the release of Servoy 4.0 we start with the release of new Components that work with 4.0.
However, the licensing system will be different (more reliable and easier to use), installing will be different as well as library locations.

For those of you that need to work with Windows applications that can serve as a DDE Server, like all MS Office applications and for instance MetaTrader, we created the DDE Plug-in.
Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) is a technology for communication between multiple applications under Microsoft Windows or OS/2. More information can be found here.
With the DDE Plug-in you can get, put and listen for events on the DDE Server.
Not only will it work with a local running server it will also work with a DDE Server running on the same machine as your Servoy Application Server.
When you work locally you need to be on the same platform as the DDE Server, MS Windows.
When you work remoty you can work on any platform supported by Java and Servoy.
The DDE Plug-in will not (yet) work with MS Windows Vista.
You can download the DDE Plug-in via our Update Manager.
The Update Manager Installer can be found in the downloads section.
